“Butcher’s Scissors”, 2017

Taryn de Meillon acrylic painting, "Butcher Scissors", depicting a pair of blue-tinted scissors on a wine-red background

This is another piece from my AP Studio Art days. The assignment originally started out as composition practice. We were instructed to choose a random tool or appliance and then draw it in pencil from six different perspectives. We then chose our favorite perspective to paint.

Before beginning the painting, we were given an arrangement of art history books to look through. We then had to choose one piece that spoke to us and use the color palette from that painting. I wish I could remember the name of the painting that I chose, but I do remember that it was a surrealist portrait. The array of blues paired with the deep, wine red caught my eye.
