This is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever done. I only include it in my portfolio because of its visual appeal.
The assignment for this piece was to use charcoal on newspaper. My original concept for this project was a portrait of one of my classmates, but I really didn’t like how it came out. I ended up coming up with this as my final on a complete whim, after getting approval from my teacher to use paint to add color.
A few months later, my teacher told me that she wanted to submit it to the annual Scholastic Art competition. In order to do so, I needed to have a title for it. Not only did I feel nothing for this piece, it had no inspiration behind it nor a story. I figured I could just make something up about it being a political statement, hence “Political Tear-Down”.
